What am I missing?

I have read a few articles and listened to bball analysts and the general consensus is the BK Nets will be fighting it out with the Pacers and Bulls to challenge the Heat for the conference title. The Knicks are not even remotely in the conversation. The Knicks are mentioned as a "wildcard" or worse yet the top team likely to be fighting off the newcomers like Cleveland and Detroit etc... for that 5th spot.

I feel like If GG would have traded for Pierce and Garnett this summer the bball world would be dolorously pontificating about their age, the Knicks habit of overpaying for big names that are past their prime and selling wolf tickets to the fans about a title run. The Nets move looks and feels like an old KNICK move through and through. Rookie coach with a big name, hall of fame players closer to the hall than to their prime, over-rated primary superstar...on and on. I like the Nets squad but I think that they will be out in the first round again.

Meanwhile, the Knicks are moving like the Spurs in these mean streets. GG has already proven that he is adept at adding undervalued talent from nowhere (Cope, Novak, Lin) so you have to have faith in the potential of CJ Leslie and Jeremy Tyler. Also, Bargnani's game should fit Melo's perfectly offensively and defensively, so GG went against the grain and got an unpopular talented dude that fits the scheme. Beno, Artest, Lil Penny Hardaway I mean come on man this cat is killin this offseason.

If you listened to Beno's interview you can tell GG was on his job from free agency jump off. Quiet, under the radar, sound and purposeful moves which is the opposite of the Knicks that I know under Dolan. I would be curious to hear what you BBall stat heads (not STAT heads) make of the Knicks roster. I would think that advanced statistics will back up the tight fit of the squad (although I ain't even gonna try laying out something like that with a guy like Bluecheese around). Hell even listening to the scout they have looking at Hamed Haddadi, we like to party,(Insert your own Slick Rick joint right here) in Asia proves to you that they are all over the world looking for the right talent. Yea GG has made mistakes but he has made some great moves as well.

Anyway what do you all think of the Nets fo-real? Will they really be that good? Will the Knicks regress by default from the 2nd seed/Atlantic Division champs? Am I wrong to think the Knicks can actually challenge for a title with this roster?
