Dream Rebuild

In my version of the Knicks' perfect offseason, they don't sign a Gasol or an Aldridge, or any other top-tier player out there. I'd much rather see them sign two players just below that level, in the 1AA tier of free agents. Wes Matthews and Greg Monroe would be ideal, although Goran Dragic would be great as well.

Jason Smith has really started to play well of late, and if he keeps this up for the rest of the season, I'd be happy to have him back at $3-4 million. A Calderon/Matthews backcourt would be one of the best shooting backcourts in the league, as well as having a premier perimeter defender, whereas a Calderon/Dragic backcourt would be a great mix of shooting and getting to the rim, something the current Knicks team really struggles with. Monroe has shown to be a dominant low-post threat, and in an era where few teams deploy an offense that rewards traditional back-to-the-basket bigs, the Knicks seem an ideal scenario for him. With Smith in the mid-range and Monroe down low the spacing should be fine. Obviously Monroe can slide over to center and Melo could play alongside either Smith or Monroe if Fisher wanted to go with a small lineup.

Thoughts?
