Game Thread: Knicks vs. Lakers-2/10/12

Good evening, shrimpdads! Tonight promises to be fairly silly. The Knicks, looking for their fourth straight win, will face the Lakers on national television, with a substantial portion of the attention likely being devoted to Jeremy Lin. Lin, making his third start, will go up against the first above-average defense he's faced, as well as the biggest bigs who've ever tried to swat him in the paint. That's what a lot of folks were waiting to see from Lin, so that should be interesting.

But for us, this is just one more opportunity to see if these lovable short-handed Knicks can upset another team. They'll probably need their sharpest three-point shooting, and they'll definitely need some otherworldly interior defense and rebounding (without getting into foul trouble) from Tyson Chandler, Jared Jeffries and whoever else would like to lend a hand against Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum. It's a longshot, but at least the Lakers played a close overtime game last night and might be tired or something.

Comment along in this thread if you're watching and check out the terrific Silver Screen and Roll for Lakers coverage. As always, please do not post photos, .gifs, illegal streams, or lunar travel brochures in the thread. Keep it light, keep it civil, and enjoy the game. May the magic continue!

Tip-off's at 8.

Another great game from Jeremy Lin, another fine team-wide offensive outing, and another bad team vanquished. The Knicks have won three straight.

Game Thread: Knicks at Wizards- 2/8/12

Evening, daffodils! The Knicks are in our nation's Wizards basketball capital, Washington D.C., to face-- you guessed it-- the Wizards. Those Wizards had lost four straight games for beating the Raptors on Monday, and they're 5-20 overall, which is less wins and more losses than they were probably hoping to have at this point in the season.

The Knicks, of course, aren't quite as prepared to beat the Wizards as they'd usually be. Amar'e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony will both be missing from tonight's game, which means that Jeremy Lin will not only have to guard John Wall, but pretty much weave the entire Knicks offense with his bare hands yet again. And he'll probably be doing it against a defense (albeit a pretty bad one) looking to trap and double him at every opportunity.

Speaking of Wall, this is of course the first match-up between the two since Lin made a (bigger) name for himself by battling the first pick in the 2010 Summer League in Vegas. I was at that game, and it was both my first glimpse of Lin's skills (though I'll confess to being way more into Moussa Seck at the time) and his devoted following (The place was packed and people were BAWLING in the audience. I'm not exaggerating.) So, uh, yeah. This should be cool, and hopefully Lin's up for the task, somebody else will step up to provide offense, and the Knicks can figure out a way to take the most winnable of the three more games they'll play without Stoudemire.

This here's your thread to comment along and Bullets Forever is a superb Wizards blog to check out. As always, please do not post photos, .gifs, illegal streams, or links to rabbit breeder directories in the thread. Tip-off's at 7 sharp.

Game Thread: Knicks vs. Jazz- 2/6/12

Evening, hotshots! The Jazz are in town tonight to face the Knicks. Said Knicks will be without Amar'e Stoudemire (who is on a leave of absence to mourn the death of his brother, may he rest in peace), and Jared Jeffries will start at power forward in his place. Tonight, of course, also marks the first career start of Jeremy Lin, hero of Saturday's game against the Nets. I'm terribly excited to see how that goes.

The Jazz, meanwhile, are a pretty bad defensive team, but they can score quite a bit, especially inside with one of the roughly nine centers they employ. Jeffries and Tyson Chandler will have their work cut out for them, and it's crucial that Lin and the rest of the Knick guards keep Utah ballhandlers from penetrating so the Knick bigs don't get pulled away from the paint too much.

This is your thread to comment along if you're watching. SLC Dunk is here. Remember not to post photos, .gifs, illegal streams, or scanned maps of Prussia in the thread. Tip-off's at 7:30, which is quite soon.

Go get 'em, Jeremy.

Game Thread: Knicks vs. Nets- 2/4/12

Evening, smellicopters. The Knicks finish their three-games-in-three-nights stretch with a home contest against the Nets tonight, and hopefully it isn't as heartbreaking as the previous two games. It might not be easy. The Nets, despite being severely short-handed, have been playing pretty well of late. Deron Williams is healthy and doing neat things, and Anthony Morrow is coming off a ridiculous 42-point, 8-11 from downtown performance last night against the Timberwolves. If Landry Fields struggles to check him and other Knicks don't help out, Morrow could single-handedly beat the Knicks and/or burn down Madison Square Garden tonight. The Nets'll have our old, dear friend Shawne Williams poopin' in the corners as well.

But, hopefully, the Knicks aren't deflated from two close, tough losses against good teams. Hopefully, they come out tonight pissed off and vindictive and attack New Jersey's short-staffed front line (no Mehmet Okur and no Brook Lopez means Extra E, Shelden Williams, and Kris Humphries comprise the starting front court) while playing plenty of the vigilant defense we've seen in spurts the last two nights.

We desperately need a win tonight, and I'd imagine these Knicks do too. If the Knicks finish this stretch 0-3, everybody will be very, very sad. (And by "everybody" I mean a fraction of a percentage point of people. Pretty much everybody who doesn't like the Knicks hates them and wants us to suffer.)

So, here's your thread and here's NetsDaily (if you visit, be nice, and be nice to Nets fans that stop by over here). Remember not to post photos, .gifs, illegal streams, or old high school report cards of Supreme Court justices in the thread. Tip-off's at 7:30.
