Monday Crumbs: ¡Mas Thomas!

Here's what's floating around the internet the day after the greatest concert ever played...

  • Yeah. In case you missed the mention yesterday, I was in attendance for the Roots and Lupe Fiasco at the Nokia Theater last night. Put shortly, it was perfect. Unbelievable concert.
  • The big news on the Knicks front is, of course, that Isiah Thomas has been extended. I'll very likely go back on this at some point, but I'm relatively cool with the move. Save for some exceptions (the Jerome James Experiment), Isiah's been satisfying as a coach, and the players clearly like and respect him. The wild card here is Zeke's future as a GM. It remains to be seen if he has the green light to make trades and signings in the near future. In my opinion (at the moment. I change opinions as frequently as I change underwear. Weekly.), Isiah has such a good eye for draft talent that trades and signings are mostly unnecessary. I'm not really sure. Tell me what you think in the comments. I know that many Knick fans are vehemently anti-Isiah (like Ed Valentine of Big Blue View, who posted as much on his other blog.) I certainly understand that point of view. Comment away.
  • I'm also interested to see how this affects the team's performance right away. Will Isiah get too comfortable and coast or will this give him the necessary confidence to lead the Knicks to the playoffs? For more on Isiah's extension, head over to Knickerblogger. The comment section is worth a read also.
  • If you couldn't tell, I'm totally sick of polar bears. Fuck polar bears. Gorillas are what's up.
  • It's hard to argue Isiah's extension when he leads all head coaches in scoring...(Found on True Hoop).
  •  I guess these are gonna be all Isiah-related crumbs. This Marc Berman article reminds me that there might be a difference to Isiah's mindset as a GM these days. He's now had to deal with the issues of the players he brought in on the coaching level. Guys like Jalen Rose and Steve Francis have provided headaches at various points throughout the season, and Isiah was the coach suffering for his own poor management. Maybe he learned something from that? Maybe not? Maybe GM Isiah will go out and sign Darius Miles to a 6 year deal, and then Coach Isiah will bitch about it to the media? Who knows.
Anyway, I'm interested to see what you guys think. Let us know your immediate reactions and predictions to this extension in the comments section. I'll be back tomorrow. Peace.

UPDATE: New poll for y'all on the right. Do it to it.

Yo, Fuck Dat
I don't get it. I enjoy Zeke the coach, but lets review the rule of contracts:
Long Contracts = silly. See: Jerome James, Jared Jeffries, Steve Francis, Jalen Rose, Penny Hardaway, Randy Johnson (to cross sports), Arod, Our coach last year, aka He Who Shall Not Be Named.
Short, if you don't play well, the Albuquerque Riverdragons are in second place in the D-League Contracts: Get more out of a player. See: Qyntel "I'll suck dick for a roster spot" Woods, many others. And if they don't work out, bring in someone new.
So I don't feel too good about this. The Knicks seen like they can fight through it though, they want that playoff spot, but not as much as Zeke wanted his job next year. I don't question extending him, I question the timing. It will probably come to nothing, but I'm worried.

perhaps
I agree with you that it might be too early, but isn't it possible that his shitty GM days are behind him, now that he's actually had to deal with it on the court? Can't I hope?

Jerome James...
...ain't an experiment!  It was an adventure, like riding the Cyclone.

Actually it just about showcasing his ass on the 1% chance that maybe Isiah could trade his ass.

As for Zeke's extension, he definitely earned it, but SML is disappointed... no more skits about Isiah trying to save his job.  Well, maybe one last one....

Isiah
I went into this season with my "Fire Isiah" t-shirt, spreading hate propoganda on the Post and Daily News blogs.  I felt the people that defending him were ridiculous and demanded the results that I grew up with (the glory years of the 90s) every season.  I since calmed down.  Curry has shown this year what Isiah has seen in him all along.  Hopefully, he'll continue to progress.  The players love him and play their asses off for him so I respect Isiah for that.  I still can't and probably will never understand some of the signings (Jerome James, Jared Jeffries, basically he shouldn't sign anyone with the initals J.J., except Joe Johnson, he's sick).  But I think Layden really laid the foundation of the teams current struggles and though Isiah deserves some blame for the past couple seasons, Layden deserves most of it.  That McDyess deal set the franchise back ten years.

I have started to and will continue to support Isiah.  I was against him coming back and coaching the team but when I finally starting to give him a chance, I realized that he has them playing better basketball.

Being an Indiana grad, I want to be an Isiah fan.  He's the only NBA All-Star in IU (amazing considering the 5 National Championships) history and now he's got me back on his side.

Yeah..
That's pretty much my mentality. As long as his job is more coach than it is GM, I'm not gonna argue the move.

Random question: Whatever happened to Marco Killingsworth? Did he come out of college?

by Seth on Mar 13, 2007 7:04 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Marco
Yeah he graduated, then did a couple summer camps and NBA workouts.  Wasn't drafted and then went overseas to Turkey I think.  Not sure if he's still playing now.

Marco had a ton of talent.  His problem was his lack of conditioning (and for that, just like everything else that occurs in my daily life, I blame Mike Davis).  Conditioning-wise he was like a combination of Eddy Curry circa 2003 and Oliver Miller.  You might remember he when he scored 34 vs. Duke in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge in November (http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/story/9071019), that was sweet, but by early January he was completely out of gas.

Side note: has anyone ever seen a Jeffires Knicks jersey?  I know he sucks but he's a combination of my two favorite things in life (IU/Knicks) just like Eric Anderson.

Jeffries Jersey
It is Allan Houston's jersey minus the last name...

I'm surprised Dolan, with all his never-ending Houston-love, allowed Jeffries to take Allan's old number.

jeffries
At the beginning of the season, when his hair was shorter, I actually did a few double takes cause i thought it WAS allan.
