Tuesday Coatis

Here's what's floating around the internets today...
- The workouts keep coming. Marcus Williams of Arizona and Dominic McGuire from Fresno State stopped by on Friday. Yesterday was Javaris Crittenton's turn, and he'd be an interesting possibility if he did fall to the Knicks.
- Meanwhile, all of our guesses and fantasies could be completely for shit. Isiah maintains that he might take a sleeper with the 23rd pick. The name Wilson Chandler is thrown around in that article.
- Another interesting bit from Isiah in that last article:
"I don't see anyone in this draft," he said, "when I talk about shooter, talking about the Allan Houston kind of shooter, I don't see anyone who can shoot the ball like that."
Really? Is Isiah that low on someone like Almond or Belinelli? Hasn't Almond been explicitly compared to Houston? I think this is a bluff. - Notice: If the Knicks draft Wilson Chandler, I will refer to him as Chandra Wilson. And you can't stop me.
- Kobe. Kobe Kobe. Kobe? Kobe! If you wanna ride the rumors, just check out the left sidebar. I'm sick of him already.
- The ESPN Deportes girl is hot!
- The man behind Hooplah..Nation offered me Morris Almond for Randolph Morris straight up. I say we just breed them and then clone the hybrid. Randolph Morris Almond for everybody! (Leave your thoughts on that deal in the comments.)
- Speaking of Nuts, I forgot to mention that I took him in the "Great Blogger Mock Draft of 2007", which is different from the SB Nation one.
- Knickerblogger's postseason grade of Jamal Crawford. It ain't pretty.
UPDATE: Nate Jones of the Fanhouse makes the case for Chong Williams.

Objection!
According to that article I read somewhen last week, all the championship teams of the last decade built their pieces by a) either trading or b) free agency.
Not one of them by the "we'll develop the kids, 'til they're ready fpor a run".
So... the question is:
What is the right way....to get a championship team?

To be honest

Certainly a point of view
Respectability would be nice, but what counts is rings, rings, rings. I think near future goal of Mr Thomas is Eastern Conference Championship. Nothing less. (Think about how Pat Ewing gets ridiculed by certain members of the writing guild).
The other thing I noticed when I took a look at the Knicks' roster:
Who's supposed to sit out the youth development and take them to the next level? Aside from Curry, prospects are shaky at best.
Marbury is over his zenith, JC is supposed to have hit his ceiling this season or the one afore, Q-Rich the same, I won't lose any words on Frenchi(e/se).
So the potential lies in Balkman (projection 7th man), Lee (6th man of the years to come), Mardy Collins (10-12 in a rotation), Nate the Great (god have mercy), Frye (could develop into a starter, elsewhere) and ... Morris and the first rounder of this years draft (both most likely role players)...
So what you got in 2-4 years is one exceptional player w/o heart (pun intended) and a bunch of role players... not the material I'd think of as improvement...
The other thing is... instant respectability... would come with the signing of Rashard Lewis (if he is a free agent (insane story from Vecsey)) or a non-crippling trade for KB24. With Bryant - on court - respect wouldn't be a problem any more... a winning season would be in reach... but aside from that, NYK would be caught in mediocrity for the time being.

im jus sayin
so we ask--
Is it possible to get kobe without crippling the team?
Nope. so thats outta the question, cuz we'll still not be able to win a ring.
So why not attempt to do the lewis thing, and if that doesnt work, let our trade pieces' respective trade values appreciate for a season or so (which lee, balkman, mardy, randolph, etc will, albeit to different degrees. ) Its not like i said build the franchise around D lee. The ultimate reality is until all the bad contracts are up (in 09-10), the knicks are in a hole. You just hope that players like jamal can break their bad habits until then. And marbury is past his prime, but with a decent team he'll be as good as anyone, as long as he doesnt have to carr ythe load like he did for half the year htis year.
