"The Ultimate Summer-League Player"?

Here's one for the "things I found from publications that are far too advanced for my attention span while vainly searching 'knicks' on Google News to see if my own posts come up" file. In his fantastic article on the Summer League, David Roth of Slate has this to say:

It's no accident that the Knicks' Nate Robinson was the MVP of this year's Vegas summer league. In the NBA, Robinson is an inefficient ball hog. In the frenetic summer league, though, his worst tendencies--the inability to slow down or pass up a shot, ever; a predilection for jumping before deciding whether to pass or shoot--become crowd-pleasing, stat-stuffing pluses. For the same reasons that Robinson annoys Knicks fans, he'd be a lot of fun as a pickup teammate; he is the ultimate summer-league player.

Thought that was interesting. The whole piece is worth a read.

nailed it
Roth echo's my thoughts exactly on Robinson.  Too much flash and not enough thought.

The Ultimate
Thanks for the mention; I've been here before (I'm a Nets fan, but I also read too much about the NBA), and I'm proud to warrant a Posting post mention.

As for Nate: I didn't want to shit on him too much. I just don't understand why he gets minutes. His PER last year was surprisingly good, but how the efficient, effective Mardy Collins has to wait for Nate to hurt himself to get out there is beyond me. Robinson's entertaining enough, but if Knicks fans want to be entertained they'd probably get more bang for their entertainment dollar watching that Marbury Mike'd Up interview again. Besides Nate, though, I was really impressed by the summer league team, and Demetris Nichols especially. If he doesn't make the team because of Nate's guaranteed deal, you'll really have a reason to be annoyed.

I love Nate
most of the time. I do, however, think this year will be a changing of the guard, so to speak, and MC Lyte will take most of Nate's minutes as the backup PG. That is if his knee is fine.

yeah
Like something like hard but loving parentship... I get those fatherly feelings too, when I see that tiny ADD (attention deficit disorder) - ridden pogo stick... and wish to help him come to peace with his own energy and concentration (or rather lack thereof) issues.
