Kings 107, Knicks 97

So I only watched the first half. I am watching Knicks in 60 right now, if only to prove my own devotion to myself, but I just couldn't stomach it the first time around. I'm mostly watching the replay to see the Zach Randolph headband-throwing ejection that apparently happened in the third quarter. I do have some notes, but let's just go over a few assorted thoughts.

  • Stephon Marbury returned, if you haven't heard. He looked a little shaky at first, but eventually got his shit together. Maybe you're more skeptical than I am, but it really looks to me like he's still quite consumed with grief. Poor dude.
  • David Lee's numbers (11 and 12 in 28 minutes) were nice, but his defense is so miserable it's baffling. Quicker guys like like John Salmons and Dahntay Jones repeatedly blew right by Lee, while Brad Miller and Mikki Moore could just go over him.
  • Eddy Curry bricked a dunk as badly as you can brick a dunk. Like, the ball shot up about 40 feet in the air.
  • Mikki Moore's real name is Clinton Moore. If he'd just gone with Clinton instead of Mikki, he'd never have had to play in the D-League.
  • If there was ever a game that demonstrated the fact that chemistry and heart beat talent and experience, it was this one. We had former all-stars and high draft picks getting completely outplayed by the likes of Beno Udrih (the Slovenian Ethan Hawke), and John Salmons (the 6'7'', black Ethan Hawke).
  • Eddy Curry and Justin Williams went to high school together.
  • Wilson Chandler checked in in the second quarter and STARTED the second half, while Renaldo Balkman didn't see the court until the fourth quarter.
Fuck, and now they didn't even show Randolph's headband throw. Forget this, I'm out. We'll talk tomorrow, kids. Peace.

Seth you watched more than me
I barely watched the game. I couldn't stand watching 2 lottery teams playing an April game in January. Maybe it's only me.

I have a question too Seth. If David Lee is so valuable to the Knicks with what he does why can't he defend anybody? (I personally would rather see Artest traded to Miami but that's just me.)

Eddy Curry bricked a dunk (i missed that) but so did Dahntay Jones. Watching the game was sad. Awful awful basketball (although the Kings have some excuses).

Isiah's rotation sucks (obviously). What baffles me, however, is how many good young players are on this roster. Why did he trade for Quentin Richardson again? (If the answer is to get Nate Robinson then it still makes me wonder. But ok.)

Last but not least I feel (a small part) of pain watching the Knicks. I didn't want to watch my team play vs the Knicks, in part because of Artest and Martin being out, I don't count Bibby as much of an absence (another thing I'm in the minority of), but at the same time the game was so listless and boring. I didn't see Zach get ejected for 2 reason: 1) I wasn't paying attention and 2) JT's Blocks was more interesting. I'm happy Salmons and Garcia played well tonight, as well as Miller, but at the same time it wasn't enjoyable in any way. Watching this group really sucks the enjoyment out of basketball. I never thought I'd say this, but I do feel sorry for Knicks fans right now.

David Lee
Lee's developing. He's a horrid defender and seems to have lost his sure-handedness, but one day he will be better. You can't say that about a lot of people on this roster.

Don't get me wrong
I don't think David Lee is neither a scrub or the savior; just a very good player stuck on the worst run pro team at the moment. And you're right about the rest of the roster littered with dead end's. But I think in a trade for Artest there isn't enough other pieces to get that deal done. If Dan Dickau were still on the team I could live with a Fred Jones,Dickau and Lee trade for Artest but Dickau isn't there so oh well. James Dolan should fire himself for the good of everyone in the Tri-State area.

Lee
in my opinion is a 6th or 7th man on a championship team.  i think he's a nice player but that's his ceiling.  he can be an extremely valuable piece for a contender but he's pretty much worthless on a lottery team like the knicks.  i mean what's the point of having a guy that plays his heart out when it's all for nothing?

does that mean they should trade him for artest?  i would rather not.  this team has enough drama as it is.  lee is one of the knicks' only tradeable asset right now so i think they should hold out.

Ewing with the step...YES! and the foul!

right
If we got Artest, it would be because of his expiring contract, not because we think he's the one guy to put this team over the edge. (I hope).

I went to the game
Quite an interesting experience (I'll make up some game notes later, Seth.)

On Randolph: I think he flung something off the scorer's table, so that may have been his headband (And probably the reason why it was off camera, he did it while walking back to the locker room.) When I first saw it, I thought it was a cup.

The headband...
I watched this game, mostly because I hadn't watched a game in over a week, so I had forgot how unwatchable the Knicks have become.  Seriously, they were nowhere near this bad last year, right?  That wasn't my imagination, right?

Anyway, yeah... Randolph tossed his headband off towards the scorer's table, after a touch foul call by the ref.  He was clearly disgusted, and tossing "equipment", including uniforms, is an automatic ejection.  Not that the Knicks or Randolph argued much.  It was a pretty immature thing to do, one that reminds me that Zach, for all his hard work and skills, is still a problem player because of that very reason - immaturity.
