A Potential Suitor For Curry?

This is total fantasy, but Sam Smith in the Sun-Sentinel suggests that Miami might be a reasonable destination for our resident 7 foot, 280 pound burden.

Riley needs a big post-up presence. He doesn't really see the game otherwise, and the truth is, rarely has a team succeeded without one. The Suns' trade for O'Neal shows they believe it too.

So what about Eddy Curry?

It seems his time in New York is coming to an end. Knicks coach and President Isiah Thomas talked last week about the phasing out of big men in the NBA. And while Thomas pursued Curry and Zach Randolph, Thomas has always seen the game through a guard's eyes.

For the first time in a long time, the Knicks could be ready to subtract payroll. With Stephon Marbury entering the last season of his contract, the Knicks actually would be under the salary cap--my computer threatened to self-destruct if I ever wrote that before now--after next season with Curry off their ledger. The expiring contracts of Jason Williams and Ricky Davis could help make that happen.

This is pure speculation and probably ridiculous, but I do think that if anybody's going to take Curry off our hands, it's going to be a cocky veteran coach who thinks he can make the big dude work. Riley's also one of the few guys to have success with a guy that big. Surely nothing will come of this, but it doesn't hurt to fantasize a little bit on an off-day.

Sam Smith?
Doesn't he have a reputation for ridiculous trade rumors? Although he does have contacts. I would be seriously interested if the Knicks moved Curry or Randolph.
Celtics '08 or bust. Are you on the bandwagon?

sam smith
is a noted trade-conjurer. no doubt. but if any team is bizarro enough to make sam smith look good, its the knicks.

Yeah, that's Sam Smith...
Generally he writes about Chicago teams in the Tribune, so I was surprise to see him in Sunday's Sun-Sentinal.  But yeah, same guy.  Well known for his trade rumors that never happen...

When I first read this
I thought you said "our resilient 7 foot, 280 pound burden" which completely changes the context of sentence, for the funnier I might add.

Personally, I hope he's wrong on this so that it would give even less validation to this.

Yeah, Smith's full of shit
But it wouldn't surprise me AT ALL if Riley were to go after Curry. This is the same idiot who thought Smush Parker coming in would be a good idea.
