Report: Sessions Nearly Off the Table

The word from our old friend Gery Woelfel at the Journal Times is that Ramon Sessions is close to receiving an offer sheet- not from New York, not from L.A., but from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

According to some NBA officials, Sessions may wind up signing with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Timberwolves are in the market for a guard after their top choice in the 2009 draft -- Ricky Rubio -- recently decided to play for Regal FC Barcelona.

Neither Sessions nor Chubby Wells, Sessions' agent, could be reached for comment Thursday night. Ditto for Timberwolves president David Kahn.

If Sessions does sign an offer sheet with the Timberwolves, the Bucks would have seven days in which to match it. That is highly unlikely, though.

Now, one can't be sure exactly how close Sessions is to reaching an agreement with Minnesota. His pen could be hovering over an offer sheet, or they could be in preliminary discussions. In either case, I wonder if Donnie Walsh rushes into action. The perception was that the Knicks were "negotiating against themselves", so Sessions and his chubby agent had no leverage in the grappling over salary. If this offer sheet with Minnesota is still in its nascent stage, which I bet it is, might Walsh step up his game and swoop in? Knick fans are getting restless. Now that he's got serious competition, it might be time for Walsh to finally part with some loot.

Thoughts? Are we buying this report? Will Walsh kick into the gear or have the Knicks passed on Sessions? Leave it in the commens.
