The Knicks will lose cash, not picks, for conducting illegal workouts.

I'm working on a mammals post, but a little nugget of news just broke. The NBA has finally ruled on the illegal workout sessions conducted by Knicks scout Rodney Heard. Jonathan Abrams of the Times has the word:

The N.B.A. has fined the Knicks $200,000 and one of their scouts $20,000 after concluding that the scout, Rodney Heard, conducted workouts of college prospects that violated league rules, according to two people made aware of the league’s actions.

...

Heard, who has been with the club since 2006, is the Knicks’ East Coast scouting director. The punishment is generally in line with previous cases that involved violations of draft workout rules, although some team executives had expected the Knicks to be forced to forfeit future draft picks as part of any punishment.

So, there it is. If you read on, you'll see that Isiah Thomas (who was in charge at the time of the workouts) did not receive a fine, although I'm not even sure how that would have worked. What does this mean for you and me? Well, I guess just be happy that the Knick won't lose any picks and go back to eating your biscuits or whatever you were doing. Check back in a bit for some more linkz.
