I was just about to shut my laptop and head outside and ignore the Knicks for a second. It was literally halfway closed, then I saw this from Adrian Wojnarowski:
Mike D'Antoni has resigned as New York Knicks coach, a source tells Y! Sports.
Another source confirms D'Antoni ouster with Knicks, tells Y!: "Conflicting visions of club's future...Mutual decision to no longer coach."
Wow. We'll have some time in the near future to bid D'Antoni farewell and discuss his legacy and stuff, but for now...holy shit. Sam Amick, incidentally, describes it as a "mutual" decision, and not a straight resignation.
Either way, I'm dumbfounded. I guess this lends a little more credence to suggestions that D'Antoni wasn't on the same page as his team? I guess this makes Mike Woodson head coach for now (Update: Yes.)? I guess we're about to put up with months of speculation as to who'll be the new coach? I guess tonight's game against the Blazers is going to be even more bizarre than we expected?
I'll update more throughout the day. For now...wow.
UPDATE (2:36 PM): Would have been pretty awkward if this didn't happen:
Knicks assistants Dan D'Antoni and Phil Weber are gone too, source tells Y! Sports.
Not Kenny Atkinson, though? Hmm.
Take the jump for some soothing.
