The Knicks training camp press release just came out and they're doing things a bit differently this year. It's been a couple years since they left home to start the season-- after spending some time in Charleston, SC* and Saratoga Springs, NY (thanks guys!!), camp's been a Greenburgh affair. This year, they'll hold Media Day at the training center, then head up 87 again:
In preparation for the 2014-15 season, the Knicks will hold training camp from Sep. 30 through Oct. 4 at Christl Arena on the grounds of the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY. It is the first time camp will be held at West Point since 1966. Further details on the practice schedule will be released at a later date. All practices are closed to the public.
I don't know whether the decision to hold camp at the home of Army was Coach Derek Fisher's idea or Dad Phil Jackson's idea, but a vacation camp could be a boon for bonding, especially on a team with several new faces. I prescribe some trust falls and a few rounds of that game where everyone says his first animal that begins with the first letter of his name and everyone else has to remember it. All that adds up to like 10 more wins.
(*Side note: I had no recollection of this at all.)
