Carmelo Anthony is a Puerto Rican soccer team owner and a Ninja Turtle designer

(And he's rehabbing.)

Carmelo Anthony's quest to become THE Digital Athlete and a Living Brand continues apace. From THR via CBS:

The New York Knicks star and self-professed Turtles super-fan will serve as creative director of Turtles by Melo, a consumer products line inspired by the Nickelodeon franchise. It is expected to span lifestyle products, home furnishings, publishing, video games and more. Turtles by Melo is set to debut in the spring 2016, ahead of the summer theatrical release of Viacom-owned Paramount Pictures' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, in which Anthony has a cameo.

"I am so excited about the opportunity to work with the Nickelodeon team on this new Turtles ‎venture," said Anthony.

Okay!

Today is also the announcement day for Melo's new Puerto Rican soccer team:

Anthony is the new owner of Puerto Rico FC, a club that will begin play in the North American Soccer League in 2016, it was announced on Thursday.

"I'm a huge fan of the game," the eight-time All Star said in a phone interview with ESPN.com. "The sport is growing at a rapid pace, and I wanted to bring it down here to the island."

Anthony said that he's been in discussions to bring a team to Puerto Rico for several years. Originally, he talked to the ownership of the Puerto Rican Islanders, which played in the NASL from 2011-2012, about revitalizing the club.

Congrats, Brand Melo! That all sounds like it is fun and lucrative. This is a really good interview on the topic. Melo sounds like he'll be a good, conscientious sports owner.

And now a basketball quote in that Begley article:

"Every day I wake up and spend my mornings in the gym," Anthony said. "Basketball will always be my No. 1 priority. But also, for me, it's about laying a foundation (for the future) and kind of stepping outside the box and taking chances. That's what this is about."
