The Knicks made their final roster cuts, and kept Ron Baker

Say goodbye to Amundson, Early, Inglis, Randle, and Tokoto

Today, the Knicks cut their roster down from 20 players to 15.

That leaves us with these 15 players: Derrick Rose, Courtney Lee, Carmelo Anthony, Kristaps Porzingis, Joakim Noah, Brandon Jennings, Sasha Vujacic, Willy Hernangomez, Mindaugas Kuzminskas, Lance Thomas, Kyle O’Quinn, Justin Holiday, Maurice Ndour, Marshall Plumlee, and Ron Baker.

Few things of note:

  • The Knicks can assign four of the players they just cut to the D-League. Presumably, those four will be Chasson Randle, JP Tokoto, Cleanthony Early, and Damien Inglis. Lou Amundson is a bit old to be running around in Westchester at this point.
  • Speaking of Lou Amundson, his salary is fully guaranteed, so New York will still be paying him this season. He’s not making much money (relatively speaking) anyway.
  • As for Chasson Randle, don’t forget that he’s injured. He’s about two weeks away from returning to action. Therefore, I would imagine the Knicks expect him to get up to speed in Westchester before considering him for the NBA club.

That’s all well and good, but I’ve buried the lede a bit here. RON. Ron’s on the team! Look, you may think I’m biased due to my apparent status as a big Ron booster, but this was a no-brainer in my mind. This preseason, Ron has defended well, shown us some flashes of good offensive skills, and he’s even fit in nicely with a group of mostly starters. Randle’s injury made this decision even easier than it already was, but regardless, Ron Baker deserves a spot on this team. And now he has one.

RON.

(Season starts on Tuesday. Get hyped, peeps.)
