A whole new season starts today, baby! Why today? Because looking back at this season is getting depressing! The Knicks have 24 games remaining on the schedule. They are relatively meaningless games, as the team is out of the playoff race and lacking their draft pick, but that doesn't mean the organization can't make some headway toward future competence.
The P&T staff has ideas, dammit! You should read them. The Knicks should read them, and then implement them!
Jonathan Schulman:
We already know Langston Galloway is the best guard on the team. So bring Jose Calderon off the bench and get the ball out of his hands. Toss some of his minutes to Jerian Grant too. For all the progress Carmelo has made vigorously dishing the ball, it seems like Jose is where the ball sticks and the offense stagnates. Vujacic obviously can't shoot and maybe Jose can take those looks and stick a few of them. Add to that, a lot of what the second unit big guys need is a steady hand that can pull the help just an extra step or two away. Imagine Kevin Seraphin getting a post catch, then giving it to Calderon as he works for better position on the re-entry. Maybe you'll see some steadier contributions all around.
Seth:
I want to see Robin Lopez get the ball in better and better position to fully realize he is an offensive force. Other than that, I dunno, just get these games over with so we can move on to building the rest of the team.
Joe Flynn:
I would like Jerian Grant to get more minutes with Kristaps Porzingis. The rookie point guard's development should be one of the team's top priorities from here on out. This may come as a shock to the coaching staff (and literally no one else) but Grant plays his best with Kristaps on the court. Per Basketball-Reference:
Naturally, Grant has played nearly as many minutes with Kevin Seraphin as he has with Porzingis, his fellow rookie and the future of the franchise. The setup is less than optimal, particularly for a team with a shitty point guard playing in front of him and no shot at contention this season.
Matt RW:
I'd like Dad Melo to stick around. Not only is Carmelo Anthony is sporting the highest AST% of his career this season, but he's also seemed genuinely interested in the success of his teammates even at the expense of his own stats. Other nice Melo stats: he's rebounding at the highest rate of his career as well, and his usage rate is the lowest it's been since his second year in the league. I worry a bit that he'll get discouraged by the team's awful play and try to shoulder the entire offensive burden for the remainder of the season. Well, Melo, I'm here to tell you that you should keep doing what you're doing. It's not your fault that your coach is an idiot and most of your teammates are terrible at basketball.
Matt Miranda:
Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps. Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps, Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps. Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps: Kristaps, Kristaps, Kristaps and Kristaps. Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps.
Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps; Kristaps Kristaps -- Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps -- Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps. Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps Kristaps? Kristaps. Kristaps!
Fair point, Matt. Fair point.
