The Knicks have been scouting draft prospects with a local flavor of late -- guys from area high schools and/or colleges. They will work out Iona guard A.J. English on Thursday, according to Adam Zagoria. He's a big dude (6'3"), which is always a bonus with Phil Jackson. Check out this scouting report from Fran Fraschilla:
"A.J. is one of those guys who needs to have good workouts versus higher-rated guards when he travels around the country the next four weeks," ESPN's Fran Fraschilla told SNY.tv recently. "Teams wish he was a tad more athletic, but he really knows how to play and score."
No that athletic? Sounds like a Knicks guard to me! Seriously, English can play. He'd be a great addition late in the draft.
On Tuesday Knicks Director of Player Development Mark Hughes was in California scouting guard a couple of Jersey high school guys, Sterling Gibbs and Jarelle Reischel. Gibbs, a 6'2" guard, played one season at Texas, two at Seton Hall, and his senior year at UConn while the 6'7" Reischel cut his teeth at Eastern Kentucky and Rhode Island.
Finally, the club will work out New York prep legend Isaiah Whitehead on Saturday. The front office interviewed Whitehead during the Combine, and nobody seems to know where he'll fall in the draft.
While this is all great stuff, Knicks, feel free to also scout the rest of the country. In the meantime, be sure to keep checking the P&T workout tracker for more updates.
