The Knicks have enough money to pay Kevin Durant, so obviously they are going to try to meet with him. The Knicks are also worse than many of the teams pursuing Durant, so obviously that pursuit is a longshot. And indeed, though Durant will hold his meetings in New York, he is not planning at this time to meet *with* New York. Via Woj:
Durant's representatives at Roc Nation are working to solidify invitations with the Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs and Thunder, league sources said.
...
Several teams that have interest in Durant - the Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets and Washington Wizards - could still find audiences with him, but appear to be outsiders in the process now.
This is fine, and the Knicks surely weren't planning to have an inside track on the summer's best free agent. They have contingencies aplenty, and if anything, they can move more quickly and directly to those contingencies, whatever they may be.
Just not Boston, man. Come on.
