Kristaps Porzingis is playing the big brother role to the Knicks’ new Euro duo, Mindaugas Kuzminskas and Willy Hernangomez, showing them New York and getting them into some practice sessions with ... Russell Westbrook?
Hell yea!
First we have the Blond Bomber, who Instgrammed this photo with the caption, “Great way to start the day.” That’s the difference between NBA athletes and me — chasing Westbrook around in training would not make an enjoyable start to my day. It’d probably end my life.
Hernangomez also posted a post-workout photo with Russ to his Instagram account. One criticism about him is that he might struggle matching up with all-world NBA athletes, so it’s cool to see him training with perhaps the league’s most freakish athlete.
Finally, we turn to the account of an old friend, Iman Shumpert, who snapped a photo with Westbrook and the unicorn himself.
This is cool as hell, since Kristaps mentioned last season that he considers Westbrook to be a role model for his own game:
It was interesting that when Porzingis spoke about aggressiveness, he brought up Russell Westbrook as someone he can follow. The Thunder guard always is attacking.
...
"It's not that I have to prove anything or that I can relax," Porzingis said. "That's the way I should be every day. For example, Russell Westbrook, he never relaxes. He's always super-aggressive. That's the way you have to be. You have to have that mentality every time you step on the floor."
Thanks to Westbrook’s stupid contract extension, we’ll probably have to wait another couple of years to see him join forces with New York’s Yung Euro Brigade. Oh well, it’s never too early to start recruiting.
