Dennis Smith Jr. dines with Phil Jackson, does not work out for the Knicks

Hopefully the food was tasty

Contrary to reports saying that he would, it appears that Dennis Smith Jr. did not, in fact, work out for the Knicks yesterday.

Smith's non-workout, unfortunately, comes with very few details:

North Carolina State's Dennis Smith Jr. was expected to work out for the Knicks on Wednesday but the workout did not take place, per sources familiar with the matter. It is unclear why Smith Jr. did not work out for the Knicks but he was in New York and, according to a report published by ZagsBlog, met with team president Phil Jackson while in town.

As mentioned there, Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog wrote for FanRag Sports yesterday that Smith did have dinner with Phil Jackson on Monday and interviewed with team officials on Tuesday:

Former N.C. State point guard Dennis Smith Jr. had dinner with Knicks president Phil Jackson on Monday night and “would love the chance” to play with Carmelo Anthony.

Smith Jr. had meetings with Knicks executives on Tuesday as the franchise weighs what to do with the No. 8 pick in the June 22 NBA Draft.

A "source" inside the "restaurant tells me that Smith and Jackson dined on grilled cheese sandwiches cut diagonally, various flavors of Doritos and pizza. The significance of those three dishes is currently unknown.

In all seriousness, this probably means one of two things: either Smith has received a guarantee from a team above the Knicks that they’ll draft him, or the Knicks were so sold on Smith from his interviews that they decided not to work him out (a possibility, given that most of the criticisms of Smith seem to be related to his character).

Time will tell if this is significant, or if Smith ends up a Knick. Either way, only 14 days remain until we find out!
