Yahoo’s Shams Charania dropped the kind of news bomb Knicks fans were hoping to avoid at this trade deadline. Apparently one of their prized young players, big man Willy Hernangomez, no longer wants to play for New York.
Representatives for New York Knicks center Willy Hernangomez requested for him to be traded ahead of Thursday’s deadline, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Hernangomez’s representatives informed Knicks officials of the trade request in recent days, league sources said, seeking a team in which he can continue his development as a young NBA center.
Willy is undoubtedly frustrated with the lack of playing time he’s received this season following a rookie campaign that saw him win All-Rookie first team honors. His minutes have dropped from 18.4 per game to 9.2 per game, and he has played in only 25 of the team’s 54 games.
Shams also mentioned that several teams have inquired about Willy. Does this mean the young Spaniard will be gone by the Feb. 8 deadline? We’ll have to wait and see.
