David Fizdale will interview for the Knicks’ head coach position next week

An interview!

Former Memphis Grizzlies head coach David Fizdale will meet with the Knicks’ front office next week, according to Stefan Bondy.

David Fizdale, considered by some as a leading candidate for the Knicks, is scheduled to interview next week for their vacant coaching position.

The 43-year-old revealed that news to reporters in Oakland on Friday while visiting a buddy, Steve Kerr, at a Warriors practice. Fizdale said he’s also interviewing with the Suns for their vacant position next week.

Fizdale has a strong coaching pedigree, having worked as an assistant under Eric Spoelstra on the Miami Heat’s two most recent championship teams. He comes highly endorsed by both LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, who even campaigned a bit for Fizdale to get the Knicks job the last time he was in New York.

There are some red flags, however. Fizdale feuded with Grizzlies big man Marc Gasol, which led to his ouster earlier this season.

Personally, I like what I heard from Fizdale during his brief stint as an announcer. Dude clearly knows the game, and I’m betting he will impress Steve Mills and Scott Perry during his interview.
