REPORT: Villanova coach Jay Wright will not interview for NBA jobs

The Knicks apparently wanted to talk.

When the New York Knicks kicked off their coaching search a few weeks ago, there was one name near the top of just about everyone’s list of dream candidates: Villanova head coach Jay Wright, who had just guided the Philadelphia school to its second NCAA championship in three years.

Sadly, it looks like the Knicks’ front office will never even get a chance to make their pitch, per Marc Berman:

Wright’s agent, in his first public remarks since a published report stated the Knicks have interest, said on the record Wright won’t speak to any NBA clubs and will defend the school’s 2018 NCAA championship.

“He’s under contract with Villanova and he’s very, very happy there,’’ his longtime agent, Carl Hirsch, told The Post. “There’s no plans to leave.’’

Apparently two NBA teams contacted Wright’s agent, with one of those teams believed to have been the Knicks. So the interest was probably real. Alas.

Let’s not lose heart, though. There are still plenty of fish in the sea.
