This is an odd time of year, with some teams playing for nothing and other teams playing for everything. As such, you can see some wacky stat lines in the first few days of April. But I don’t think any of us were prepared for rookie second-rounder Damyean Dotson to drop a 30-point, 11-rebound masterpiece on the playoff-bound Miami Heat.
Yet that was exactly what went down on April 6, otherwise known as the Last Friday Night Knicks of the Season. Let’s watch, shall we?
Sadly, my favorite highlight of the game is not included in that video. Kenny Albert pointed out on air that Dotson was the first Knicks rookie to score 30 since Chris Copeland, and Clyde. clearly unable to recall Chris Copeland, just kept repeating the name “Copppppeland” over and over.
Anyway, yes...Dotson is the first Knick to score 30 since Cope. Not even Kristaps Porzingis scored 30 as a rookie. Dotson is also the first Knicks rookie to score 30 off the bench since Channing Frye and the first Knicks rookie to score at least 30 points and pull down 10 rebounds since Patrick Ewing.
That’s quite a feat!
