In case you missed it, the Knicks selected R.J. Barrett with the third overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Here’s the video:
It was quite the moment. First, there was the exultant reaction from Knicks fans (for once) over their newest draftee. Then, we we were treated R.J.’s emotional reaction, as he took a moment to let his guard down and cry on the shoulder of his father, Rowan.
You also may have heard of R.J.’s godfather, Steve Nash, who celebrated the selection online.

After his big moment, R.j. was whisked off for a series of interviews, but not before reconnecting with his old high school buddy (and new Knicks teammate), Kevin Knox:
Sounds like Kevin and R.J. are ready to get into the gym and work...hopefully with the rest of the young guns.
MSG Network’s Rebecca Haarlow interviewed R.J., who confirmed much of what we already know: namely, that he’s an extremely focused young man who worked for this moment all his life.
“I want to be the guy to help turn around the @NYKnicks. I want to be the guy to get us back to that championship pedigree.”@RjBarrett6 draft pick speaks exclusively to our @RebeccaHaarlow about coming to the Big Apple & shares a special message to #Knicks fans. #MSG150 pic.twitter.com/NsTHpOwklq

Here’s the rest of R.J.’s press conference. Basically, he showed off the polish of a 10-year vet. The New York media and fans are going to love this kid.
