Moments after the draft, the Knicks made a few moves to help bolster their roster for the summer and possibly into the fall. Almost before the draft even ended, it was announced they had a deal in place with UCLA forward Kris Wilkes.

Wilkes was a highly-touted high school prospect. A McDonald’s All American, and — much like Knick legend Jared Jeffries — he was named Indiana’s Mr. Basketball in 2017.

The news on Wilkes was followed up pretty quickly with Division II Shaw University’s Amir Hinton. Hinton is a Philadelphia native who never played on the AAU circuit and has had to claw his way to where he is now. After several good workouts around the league, the Knicks swooped in and scooped up the nation’s D-II scoring leader.

Hinton seems like he has a ton of heart and knows that this is just the beginning of the climb for him. Another Shaw University alum, Flip Murray, will surely help Hinton find his footing to navigate the rigors of how to make it in the NBA. I have a feeling this kid is going to be extremely easy to root for, whether on the big Knicks or the W-Knicks next year.

This morning the Knicks also struck a deal with Louisville’s VJ King, who they had in for a workout earlier this month.

Summer League gets rocking in just about two weeks, so expect their roster to take shape pretty quickly. Plenty more to come. For now, let’s watch Amir Hinton be a really earnest and cool kid.

And then be a menace on the court:
