REPORT: The Knicks are considering signing Celtics guard Terry Rozier

They probably shouldn’t, though.

It hasn’t attract as many eyeballs as the DeMarcus Cousins rumor, but there is another prospective free agent reportedly on the Knicks’ wish list who probably shouldn’t be there.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania mentioned on Wednesday that the ‘Bockers are considering signing point guard Terry Rozier. The Louisville alum is currently under contract with the hated Boston Celtics, but will become an unrestricted free agent if the Celtics renounce him to clear cap space for the likes of Kemba Walker.

On Thursday Marc Berman backed up Shams’ report, saying Rozier “has long been an apple of Knicks GM Scott Perry’s eye.” Hyperbolic as usual — at least I hope so — Berman claimed that some in the Knicks’ organization don’t view Rozier as a huge step down from Kyrie Irving.

OK, so let me introduce you to Terry Rozier. He is 25 years old, has played four NBA seasons, and has never shot even as high as 40% from the field. His numbers from last season were eerily similar to current Knick Dennis Smith Jr., with the notably exception that DSJ is three years younger.

Look, the Knicks are going to be connected with pretty much every free agent this side of Enes Kanter. But there’s a lot of smoke here — too much for comfort. Terry Rozier is not good. The Celtics seem quite happy to let him go. Maybe the Knicks should just roll with the THREE point guards they still have on their roster.
