Hey friends! Anything going on this weekend?
For those of you who may have been preoccupied with other matters, there has been some Knicks free agency rumblings afoot in the past few days. First we heard that the front office might be looking to pursue former Hornet Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Then, Ian Begley started sounding off about the front office’s interest in a former Knick.
Another player to keep an eye on? Justin Holiday.
Some decision-makers see Holiday as a player worth pursuing in free agency, per SNY sources.
Justin Holiday, eh? The veteran shooting guard played with the Knicks during the 2016-17 season, and was quite respectable on a bad club, so I can see why the front office would like to bring him back. Honestly, they probably should never have let him go in the first place. Last season he played with the Indiana Pacers, averaging 8.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting over 40% from three. That’ll play.
Still, I feel like Knicks would be better served by simply bringing back their own shooting guard, Damyean Dotson. Dot is five years younger than Holiday, and showed improvement late last season. He has also shown he can mesh well with the young Knicks reserves.
But if a Dotson return isn’t going to happen — and it seems very unlikely at this point — Holiday makes sense as a replacement.
