Freshly-minted Knicks president Leon Rose might be hunting for a GM from a playoff-bound squad to take over. Since these are the Knicks we’re talking about, the GM in question is the thoroughly mediocre Elton Brand.
According to a league source, Elton Brand has been targeted by Rose as a candidate for Knicks GM. Brand, 41, is currently the Sixers GM and is under contract next season, complicating any designs of bringing him to New York. The source said Rose wanted to see if Brand was dismissed after the playoffs.
Here’s the thing, though: If the 76ers were to dismiss Brand, it would be because he’s done a shitty job as general manager. Brand inherited a star-studded roster fronted by Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, then traded Landry Shamet, two first and and two seconds for Tobias Harris, then signed the corpse of Al Horford to a massive free agent contract. Brand hasn’t exactly shown that he can maintain a contender, let alone build one from scratch.
Fortunately, it looks like the Sixers might bail out Rose and the Knicks, as they don’t appear likely to let Brand walk.
Sixers general manger Elton Brand is reportedly a candidate for the #New York #Knicks GM job. However, a Sixers team source noted that Brand is under contract with Philly past this season. The source added the team is very happy with the work he's done as Philly's GM.

The #Sixers source cited Brand’s leadership and strong working relationships with players, agents and executives around the league. Sounds like the #Sixers aren’t trying to let EB go.

Rose has yet to make any big moves as president, but if this is truly the direction he wants to go in, I would be afraid. Find someone better, Leon.
