I was struggling to find something Knicks-related to write about this morning. The big news these days is that owner James Dolan is a big, dumb doofus whom everybody hates...but you can only write about that so many times, y’know?
Then fate intervened, in the form of some genius on Twitter, who posted video of NBC’s intro to Game 6 of the 1999 Eastern Conference Finals.
21 years ago today: Knicks vs Pacers. Game 6. 1999 Eastern Conference Finals.

Man, NBA could certainly cut an intro back in the day. It helps that they had Roundball Rock, but they also knew how to capture the spirit of the moment. This intro is a testament to the spirit of the “improbable, indomitable” Knicks of Sprewell, Houston, LJ and Camby. I pity the youngbloods who weren’t around to watch the ‘99 playoff run. The city was madly in love with their Knickerbockers, and deservedly so.
Anyway, take some time to watch the intro and let the spirit of ‘99 wash over you. And never forget that Reggie Miller shot 3-18 in that Game 6, a 90-82 victory that propelled the Knicks to the NBA Finals. Who knows...maybe we’ll get back there some day.
