ESPNS Adrian Wojnarowski: Thibodeau is the front runner for Knicks head coaching job

The Knicks team president Leon Rose announced that he plans to have a new head coach for the Knicks franchise by late July. Rose added "We want to find the right leader to develop our young players, as well as hold everyone accountable and take us from development to becoming a perennial winner" Rose told Mike Breen MSG network. The Knicks have interviewed ten head coaching candidates, Kenny Atkinson, Tom Thibodeau, Mike Woodson, Jason Kidd, Mark Jackson, Will hardy, Pat Delany, Ime Udoka, Chris Fleming, and Jamahl Mosley. In December, after a terrible start the Knicks fired the former two time championship winner David Fizdale.

` Mike Woodson was the last head coach who helped the Knicks make the playoffs in 2012-2013 but he was fired in a frustrating 2013-2014 season where they didn't live up to the hype, and the Knicks missed the playoffs. Woodson said " I did my job when I was here, we won games the fan base was engaged. I walked out of Madison square garden thinking the fans were proud and excited".

According to woj, Tom Thibodeau will be the front runner of the Knicks head coaching candidates. Thibodeau has been with marquee franchises such as the Bulls and Celtics. Thibodeau would join a historical franchise in league history with the Knicks looking at their past succession in the playoffs.

Kenny Atkinson has "legitimate internal support" within the Knicks to be the next head coach per reports. Atkinson has been great with player development which Leon Rose will be looking at of what Kenny Atkinson can do with the players Rose is planning to keep and develop.
