Well, it wasn’t the worst outcome, but it was pretty damn close.
The New York Knicks will pick eighth in the 2020 NBA Draft. The team had a 20.6% chance of finishing in that spot, so it’s not a total surprise, but once again there was no luck to be had on lotto night. They had a 0.1% chance of picking 10th, so at least that didn’t happen.
The Bulls (No. 4 pick) and Hornets (No. 3 pick) both moved ahead of the Knicks, if you’re looking for somebody to blame. The Minnesota Timberwolves won the rights to the No. 1 pick.
Social media is getting their laughs on, of course. I’d stay away for a while.
The sadder news, which we’ll likely cover in dept later, is that Adam Silver admitted on air just before the lotto that a Dec. 1 start to the season probably won’t happen. That, combined with reports that free agency might be pushed back, could mean the draft itself gets pushed back from its Oct. 16 date.
So the Knicks lost, and we might not see basketball, or the draft, for a long time. What a shitty night!
