The Westchester Knicks took on the Rio Grande Valley Vipers Monday in their fourth contest of the G League season. The Knicks came out strong with a 15-2 run and the Vipers committed seven turnovers in first four minutes and 42 seconds. Rio Grande Valley rebounded and went 27-12 the rest of the quarter. The Knicks cut their deficit to single digits at the half and tried to claw their way back.
Every time the Knicks made a run, the Vipers counted that and distanced themselves from their opponent. James Young and Ignas Brazdeikis scored a few baskets during that third quarter run, while Armoni Brooks totaled eight points in a two minute stretch. Westchester cut it within eight points early in the fourth quarter. That was the closest the Knicks would get, as Westchester fell to Rio Grande Valley, 135-117.
Myles Powell recorded a season-high 31 points (5/5 3PT), along with six assists and two steals. Ignas Brazdeikis finished with 20 points (8/17 FG) and nine rebounds. James Young totaled 18 points, four rebounds and four assists. Simi Shittu continued his double-double streak with 18 points (8/13 FG) and 10 rebounds, along with two steals. Westchester shot 45 percent from beyond the arc.
The Knicks are back in action on Wednesday against the Long Island Nets in the first game of a back-to-back. The game will be on ESPN+ and MSG at 11:00am.
