Well that was unexpected.
The Knicks held the 19th and 21st picks in tonight’s NBA draft but traded both: #19 to Charlotte for a future 1st-round pick, #21 to the L.A. Clippers in exchange for L.A.’s #25 pick and a 2024 2nd-rounder belonging to Detroit. With that 25th pick, the Knicks selected Quentin Grimes.
Grimes, a 6’5” guard who disappointed his freshman year at Kansas but found his stride at Houston, hit 40% from deep on high volume (over 8 attempts from 3-point land per game) and is considered a good defender who projects to have success on that end in the pros, too. Last year he was the American Athletic Conference’s Player of the Year and ACC Tournament MVP. Never heard of him? That’s fair. Reasons to feel good about him? Ian Begley says Tom Thibodeau is a big fan.
Tom Thibodeau was among the Knicks' decision-makers that was impressed with Quentin Grimes, the 25th pick in the NBA Draft:

And for all the smart asses like me out there:
Quentin Grimes isn't represented by CAA and didn't play at Kentucky.

There’s that
More reaction on the trades and 411 on Grimes headed your way soon, and stay tuned for what the Knicks do at 32...assuming they don’t trade that pick for another future 2nd, too. Grimes sounds like an intriguing talent. If he’s as gifted with prophecy as he is with hoops, this will go down as a legendary moment in franchise history.
Knicks gone win it all
