Knicks close out a strong Summer League with the victory.

Derek Fisher runs a very calm, assertive huddle. If he yells, or pulls a guy over to talk individually, it seems to make the instructions resonate. That cool, collected energy was reflected in the product on the floor today in Las Vegas. The Knicks improved to 4-1. Summer play can get ragged in a hurry, but this game was reflective of the team's demeanor from the top down. Players leaked out to get easy transition buckets at the rim, or they capitalized on defensive collapses in the secondary break.

The game included no Kristaps Porzingis, no Langston Galloway and only a smidgen of Maurice Ndour. Jerian Grant was given complete control of the offense because of this, and he handled it very nicely, snaking around screens and sliding passes all around the Milwaukee defenders. Grant's efforts were rewarded with great team play, and Thanasis Antetokounmpo had a breakout game finishing at the rim aplenty. Thanasis scored 17 points without taking a jumper and without missing. Some notes, and then let's reconvene at a later date. Like... training camp later.

- Don't be surprised to see Alex Kirk at training camp. Be absolutely fucking aghast if he makes the regular season roster. Kirk is not good at any one thing, and is bad at mostly everything. What he does do is sniff out formations and clue the defense in early. Rashad Vaughn is a lethal shooter, but practically every floppy they ran was spotted, and hounded appropriately. Vaughn still ended up with 20 points, but it took him 19 shots. Kirk is also generally in the right spot, he just overvalues his ability to contribute. Honestly, it got to the point where Kirk was abusing himself.

- Not many minutes for Maurice Ndour. He performed in the time he had, though. Something that stuck out to me, and has been good all along, is his post passing and the ability to stick it on someone's hands in tight spots. You can probably lock in a training camp invite for him. That makes me smiley!

- You know what makes Thanasis Antetokounmpo smiley? Unnecessary contact and his opponents' subsequent anger. In unrelated news, Thanasis doesn't tie his shoes very tight. Heck of a sendoff game for the guy. He never stops raging!

- A reasonably ok game for Ricky Ledo. Not bad timing, but I bet he wishes the Bucks were on the docket earlier. Still shot poorly, but a few of the misses were just unlucky to have rimmed out. Did a little of everything else and really sees the floor well. The Bucks could not figure him out.

That's really it. The Bucks were overmatched and under-enthused. The Knicks might have really rolled them if they had Porzingis. I gotta go gamble and be a dirtbag now.

It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right. I hope you've had the tiiiiiime of your liiiiiife.

It's the last day of summer fun, campers. The Knicks finish their time in Vegas tonight with a consolation game against Rashad Vaughn and the Milwaukee Summer Bucks. Kristaps Porzingis and Langston Galloway (and perhaps more people) will sit this one out, which means ALL JIMMY BARON ALL THE TIME. (But for real, here's a chance for some guys who haven't played to get some attention. They deserve it!)

Tip-off tonight is at 8:30 EST. Stingy and I are here at Thomas & Mack to watch and say things. Please don't post large photos, GIFs, or links to illegal streams in the thread. Go the Knicks!

Not motivated.

Interesting things happened even though the Knicks didn't put up much of a fight. Eyes remained squarely on Kristaps Porzingis, but the Warriors seemed to pay an extra bit of attention to our new pal Maurice Ndour. Coverage just had an extra bit of starch today. Next up the Summer Knicks play the Summer Bucks tomorrow at 5:00.

As for this one, straight away Golden State were more physical, in particular this psychopath Stefan Nastic. Nastic didn't play much but he fouled liberally and yelled "Ice" incessantly. In garbage time, Nastic wiped his forehead on Ovidijus Galdikas' shoulder to initiate him into his special club for maniacs. Galdikas seemed weirded out eventually winning the ESPY for happiest garbage time turnover down 20. That energy set the tone for the whole affair strangely enough. It had Kristaps forcing up some of his more junky stuff and gave the whiny Warriors something to build on.

Let's go swimming...

- Porzingis struggled his way to 12 points. Derek Fisher tried to ramp up his minutes today, possibly anticipating a decent outing from the team. A little bit of foul trouble early and Nasty Stefan getting into his chest as soon as the tip went up (if you know what I mean) sorta flustered The Flamingo. It was nice to see him get to the stripe a little bit (5-6) and he even slipped out and calmly canned a three. Look at Nasty Stefan calling out the help to a different set of events as Aaron Craft stays with his man.

The exciting part of Porzingis, to me, is that he does so many of the smart things that keep shitty players in the league for years and years. Then he has some serious ability sewn into this fabric. It really makes your head turn. As he continues to grow and learn, this kid is going to be something good. I have all the good feels. People that apologize for nudging your shoe even think so.

- One of the older guys, Jerian Grant, was able to get some stuff going. Unfortunately the game was already on life support and he couldn't drag the entire team back up. Exciting stuff from this kid; he's a willing passer, and ultra aggressive attacking the rim. He might deserve a spot in the starting lineup with the big kids. Thats quite a ways into the future, but his defense is already leaps and bounds above Jose Calderon's. His ability to get into the lane is also better than Calderon's. What does Calderon do again? Does he do... THIS?

- Langston Galloway came out looking to turn on the jets, but he doesn't really have a pilot's license. So he had a problematic flight soon after lift off. Couple of floaters. He didn't hurt nothin'. It's Vegas, baby... word travels.

- Cleanthony Early had five fouls as soon as he woke up today.

- Thanasis Antetokounmpo hasn't shown that he deserves a spot on the big team, but he should get a chance to prove himself with a camp invite. Thanasis doesn't always know what's right in front of him, but his relentless aggression can be useful on practically any NBA roster.

Today when he checked in, he didn't know who he was supposed to take out. So he bounded up, staggered mid-stride to whip around and ask who to pull. "Cle". He zoomed over to Cle and sized up his prey on a sideline out of bounds. Today's slob was Dominique Sutton. Thanasis looked directly into Sutton's eyes as he waited for the referee to give over the ball. "How about I smother you with defense? You think you will like that, Dominique? What if I stalk you full court and slap your hands down when you try to balance yourself, Dominique? How about I use my hands to pull the veins out of your arms, Dominique?" No exaggeration. I was right there.

- My guy Maurice didn't really have it. Nobody had it today. Ovidijus had it for a split second. He had it with a clear path. So he turned around and passed it to the other team in the waning seconds of the game. That was a metaphor for this stinker. He smiled as soon as it left his hands. He was just trying to be unselfish. Thankfully he won't be the 8' trainset heading to the hoop. Remember the good times...

From Senegal to Japan to Ohio to Las Vegas to...New York?

In case you haven't noticed, New York SummerKnicks forward Maurice Ndour is the finest basketball talent to hit Las Vegas since Larry Johnson's UNLV squads of the early '90s. The lanky big man with the dreads and arm band-aid continued his run of quality play on Tuesday afternoon, demolishing the SummerSixers with 23 points, six rebounds and one vicious stuff of Jahlil Okafor which prompted a hearty "ha-HARRRRRR" from Clyde (1:16 mark):

Now that we've established that young Maurice is going to be starting for the Knicks for at least the next decade, perhaps it's time we get to know something about him. After all, that Hall of Fame introduction will sneak up on you quicker than you'd think!

- Maurice Ndour was born and raised in Senegal -- a.k.a. The Land of DeSagana Diop. The only active Senegalese player in the NBA at the moment is Timberwolves big man Gorgui Dieng. Dieng is a fine young player, to be sure, but it seems clear now that Maurice Ndour is 50-times better.

- Like most future All-Stars, Ndour played his high school ball at the prep powerhouse known as Japan. My sources tell me that, aside from studying and balling, he was also tutored in the art of drifting by the legendary Han (R.I.P.).

- He spent two years at Monroe Junior College (with former Summer Knick Orlando Sanchez!) and two years at Ohio University. Before Ndour, the greatest NBA player to matriculate at that particular school was Gary Trent.

- Per Basketball-Reference, Gary Trent's nickname was "Shaq of the MAC."

- Ndour stands 6'9" with an impressive 7'4" wingspan. When he piles those dreds on top, I'm sure he reaches an even 7'0".

- If you thought that outside jumper looked nice, Ndour's college stats back that up: he shot 43.5% from beyond the arc last season. I wouldn't mind seeing both he and Kristaps Porzingis launch a few treys before the end of Summer League.

- He has a cool accent:

I think it's safe to say that Maurice Ndour will be the greatest non-Latvian rookie in the Class of 2015. Or, at the very least, he'll make for an intriguing follow at Knicks training camp.

Jahlil Okafor gave Kristaps Porzingis the business Tuesday night in Vegas. Plenty of business. Kristaps slapped aside that business on 3 occasions, though, including one big possession in overtime.

Porzingis clearly has a lot of work to do on his body, but he provided an example tonight of how, with quick feet and long arms, he can hold his own even against stronger players.

The Knicks won again! They outlasted the Sixers in overtime. They are one of the greatest teams to ever play sports. Let's talk about it!

- Kristaps Porzingis had another entertaining, interesting, mostly positive game. Jahlil Okafor absolutely worked him early on, leaning and feinting and spinning for inside buckets as he's wont to do. Porzingis got him the other way with a prompt long two and that watery stroke from a step inside the free throw line. Kristaps took a seat after that first stint looking a bit frustrated, and returned with a new plan.

For the rest of the game, Porzingis fronted Okafor aggressively every time the ball was on his side of the floor. Because Krispy stands 8'8 with a 12-foot wingspan, he barely has to stand in front of a person to "front" him. That effort kept the ball out of Okafor's hands a few times and forced a few turnovers, wavering only when the Sixers were able to repost Jahlil or draw Kristaps away with guard penetration. Jahlil's buckets and trips to the line the rest of the way mostly came when Porzingis abandoned him to help -- something he does a touch too soon at times, without a very quick revoery. Down the stretch of OT, Kristaps made up for a lost step by gobbling Okafor's layup (the second time he'd done that), which pretty much iced the win.

Kristaps looked good again. His rebounding fundamentals got him in trouble a few times, his defense against strong drives and post-ups was flimsy, and god DAMN Kristaps, you need to demand the ball and shoot sometimes and stop being such a generous teammate ... but everything else was a delight. Great pick-and-roll D, great screens, a couple lovely buckets, bits of success adapting to Okafor's presence, and ... yo, the kid knows a thing or two about operating in a Triangle set:

: )

- It's nice to see Cleanthony Early play a role. Very quietly, and with little use of the ball, he registered 13 points on just 9 shots. His jumper wouldn't really fall, but he filled every lane in transition and found seams in the halfcourt sets to get easy buckets. Kept the ball moving, shuffled to the right places on defense, didn't mess up much. If he ever really plays in the NBA, I think that's how he's gonna play.

- Alex Kirk is bad now. He is no longer Earth's best basketball player. That crown has been passed to Maurice Ndour, who has to have a training camp roster spot locked up at this point. He's got a real jumper (hit threes in college!) to go with all those rugged (and kinda ragged) post buckets and put-backs. And he, too, absolutely ate one of Okafor's attempts at the basket.

- Jerian Grant and Langston Galloway got beat off the dribble a bit more than they did Monday night, but both also beat guys off the dribble going the other way more than they did before. Galloway still can't get the ball to actually go in, but he got to the line a bunch. I'm probably imagining things, but I swear Jerian looks more comfortable in halfcourt sets (including the odd sideline Triangle) each night.

- Thanasis Antetokounmpo hit both his threes off the catch, which is something he absolutely must do to have any chance of making this or any team.

- You rarely need to jump on defense, Kristaps. That goes for a number of plays down low, and it definitely goes for last-second desperation three-pointers when you've got a hand up. No biting on fakes. Ever!

Good job, Knicks. Y'all might just be a contender in these playoffs (schedule coming out tonight, probably).
